Pacific Games gold medal winning captain Timaima Ravisa is missing her family as she is currently in Japan on a five months contract. Ravisa, who left the country to join the MIE Women’s Rugby Club Pearls, says it’s hard being away from her parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, being locked down and cannot fly back home.
“It’s hard being away from my family especially my parents who are in the village.
“I have been contacting my sister and sometimes if I am lucky I get to talk to my parents.
“Being far from home from my family it has made me draw closer to God and mediate on His word and also making new friends in my club whom have become my new family here in Japan, and most of all to appreciate everything.”
The former Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s winger says the first thing she will do when the lockdown is lifted is come home and spend quality time with her family and just continue training.
“I have the passion and I know it’s God given talent and their (parents) only advice to me is stay safe and pray hard. The 31-year-old, who hails from Savudrodro on Vanu Levu, has been part of the Fijiana 7s team, the Fijiana XV and also the rugby league team. She was part of the Auckland Warriors 22-member squad for the NRL Women’s Premiership last year.
“I was part of the Fijian team for both 7s and 15s, jumped to league last year, played my first Test match against PNG in Sydney, captain the Bulikula team to the SPG in Samoa and got a contract to play for the Warriors during the NRLW and also play for the PM 13s held in Suva against Australia.
“This year I came to Japan to play 7s again for the MIE Women’s Club. I have the passion for the game. “Here in Japan I train every day except Wednesday my rest day and Sunday.
“For the time being we are doing our own individual training and by group like those that staying together in same apartment and those who prefer to do their own can do theirs.
“We still abide by the rules of wearing mask, staying home, washing your hands and etc.”
She added that nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself, work hard and have faith in God.
