FIJI Rugby Union has given in seven nominees out of the 11 categories of the Fiji Sports Awards.

After entering former Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan into Fiji Rugby’s Wall of Fame last weekend during the Fiji Rugby Awards, they have now nominated him as Fiji’s best coach of the year in the annual Fiji Sports Awards scheduled for February 17.

FRU nominated Fiji 7s captain Osea Kolinisau in the Sportsman of the Year category, Ana-Maria Roqica for sportswoman, Ryan for coach, Fiji men’s 7s team for team of the year, Nacani Cawanibuka in the technical category, Simione Naiduki in the administrator and Fiji Rugby Union as the organisation of the year.

Awards chairwoman Litiana Loabuka yesterday thanked all federations that took time to nominate their representatives to the awards.

“We received 64 nominations from 17 federations and this includes special Olympics and the Paralympics. Thank you for having made the effort to nominate in celebrating sports excellence,” Loabuka said.

She said with 2016 being Fiji’s Olympiad year, that would “definitely be acknowledged on the night”.

Loabuka said they had sent a formal request to a chief guest and also to a person to be the keynote speaker.

The Fiji Sports Awards is an event put together by the Fiji National Sports Commission, who will also be hosts for the 2016 Sports awards, the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), and the Fiji Sports Council.
