THE Fiji Sports Council (FSC) and the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) have joined forces to help rugby grow from the ground up across Fiji.
They signed an important agreement on Thursday in Suva that will see them working together to support young players and local rugby competitions.
One of the first events under this new partnership is the Rooster Chicken Grassroots Fiji 7s tournament, happening on December 18-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium.
But this deal is about more than just one event.
Starting in January 2026, the two groups will roll out a series of rugby tournaments including the Grassroots 7s Series in Bua, the Development 7s Series, and the National 7s tournament.
These competitions are designed to help spot and develop new rugby talent from communities all over Fiji.
At the same time, the FSC has announced a new sponsorship deal with Rooster Chicken.
Rooster Chicken’s parent company, Future Farms, has been a long-standing supporter of grassroots sports.
Their backing is a major boost for this strategic partnership, supporting both the Grassroots Fiji 7s Rugby tournament and the FSC End-of-Year Volleyball Festival, two big events that give young athletes a chance to shine and get involved in local sports.
This year’s Grassroots Fiji 7s will see 24 men’s teams, 12 under-20 teams, and eight women’s teams compete, while the Volleyball Festival will feature 24 men’s and 16 women’s teams at the FMF Gymnasium.
Both events help young players experience top-notch sports facilities and learn important values like teamwork and discipline.
FSC chief executive Gilbert Vakalalabure thanked Rooster Chicken and Future Farms for their support, saying it is key to helping young athletes grow and keeping community sports strong across Fiji.
This partnership promises to create more opportunities for the next generation of rugby stars.
