The Fiji Rugby Union has not fully compensated the Naitasiri Rugby Union for gate takings from local rugby tournaments held this year.
Peceli Rinakama, president of the NRU, revealed they anticipated a payment of $25,000 from the FRU for the Skipper Cup and the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy, but had only received $9000 to date.
“For your information, we were expecting to receive $25,000 from the gate takings, but unfortunately we just received $8000,” he said.
Rinakama explained that they expected gate takings from Farebrother matches against the Lautoka and Nadroga teams, which were played at Churchill Park and Ratu Cakobau Park earlier this year.
“In fact, we were only given a little more than $1000, and through persistence by the general secretary and treasurer, then they (FRU) were able to pay us another $8000 just last week.”
As president, Rinakama expressed a desire for rugby operations to be conducted transparently and efficiently.
Questions about Rinakama’s claims were sent to FRU interim board chairman Peter Mazey which remained unanswered when this edition went to press last night.
Naitasiri are the reigning champions of the Farebrother-Sullivan Trophy, having defeated Nadroga 11-10 in June this year.
