SIX Nations Council president and vice-president of the French Rugby Federation Abdelatif Benazzi is in the country.

While his visit is for a rugby event in Nadi, it is understood that he is also here to dialogue with the Fiji Rugby Union.

Upon his arrival on Wednesday, the former French-Moroccan international number eight met with Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

Also present at the meeting was FRU Board chairman John Sanday and acting chief executive Koli Sewabu.

“Our discussions focused on how rugby can be a bridge for diplomacy, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connections between Fiji and France and more broadly, with Europe,” Rabuka said on a post on his social media page.

“We reflected on the many Fijian rugby players who have made their mark in the French Top 14 and other premier leagues.

“France has opened doors for many of our athletes, and in doing so, helped deepen the bonds between our nations. Rugby continues to be a powerful tool for engagement and shared success.”

The PM also acknowledged France’s continued support for Fiji across various sectors from education and maritime security to climate action and cultural partnerships.

Benazzi commended Fiji’s rich rugby talent and its vital role in shaping international rugby.
