The Raralevu Rugby Club is back competing in the Tailevu Rugby Union competition after its revival last weekend. The club was established in 1970 and in the recent six years had been dormant.

Club president Nacanieli Naceva said the revival was a combined effort of villagers and the Fiji Police Force to engage youths in rugby and other associated activities.

“It is to develop their athleticism, foster better health, bolster community participation and at the same time distract them from a life of crime,” he said.

“The reason is to combat the crime rates in the village with the help of the Fiji Police Force community policing program.

“We have thought to work together, in a way to combat or reduce the crime rates in the village. “Most of our youths have always been caught by the law.”

Raralevu Village has produced national reps such as Atunaisa Laqeretabua, Timoci Tukaitabua, Waisiki Masirewa, Inoke Male, and Niko Baleiverata.

Luke Masirewa of the All Blacks Sevens team is also from the village. Raralevu Village is on the outskirts of Nausori Town.
