Forget about the bunkers, Sebastian Munoz found the trash can at the PGA Championship in South Carolina.
His effort even had CNN dubbing it “the rarest form of hole-in-one” as they poked fun at the world No 71 from Colombia.
Munoz, hit his drive on the 18th hole at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course straight left, immediately pointing that way with his club to warn the gallery.
Moments later, the ball bounced off a fence and landed in a plastic trash can set up for spectator garbage.
The fans, after originally bracing for impact, instead raised their arms in celebration of Munoz’s shot.
As he inspected the unexpected result, Munoz asked a referee: “Do I have to get it?”
“Yes,” came the reply, and with some help from a steward, he reached into the bag to reclaim his ball.
He then handed it to a delighted spectator, took a free drop and went on to save par.
Having played the back nine first, Munoz had a disastrous second nine with five bogeys to finish the day at 5-over in a tie for 112th and facing a huge challenge to make the cut.
