AFTER producing a commanding 25-7 victory over Church College of Fiji last Saturday, Ratu Sukuna Memorial School (RSMS) under-18 coach Josaia Rokomarawa says his side remains firmly focused on its primary objective of reaching the Southern Zone semi-finals.
RSMS showcased its attacking firepower and physical presence during the win at the Suva Grammar School grounds, dominating large periods of the match through strong ball carries, effective phase play and a well-organized backline.
The side displayed patience in possession and capitalized on scoring opportunities to secure an important result in its campaign.
Despite the convincing victory, Rokomarawa believes the team cannot afford to get ahead of itself.
Instead, the coach is urging his players to remain disciplined and take the competition one game at a time as they continue their push towards a top four finish.
“Our goal is to get into the semi-finals for the southern zone,” Rokomarawa said.
“We will take one game at a time so that we can try and achieve what we’re aiming for.”
While pleased with the Rokomarawa stressed that the campaign is far from over and that consistency will be key if RSMS is to secure a place in the knockout stages.
The coach believes the team must continue to improve its execution, maintain composure under pressure and stick to its structures to compete against the stronger teams later in the season.
Rokomarawa also acknowledged the expectations surrounding the programme but said the team’s attention remains fixed on achieving its immediate target as being in the top four was their number one goal.
Once that milestone is achieved, the coach says the team will reassess its ambitions and set new objectives for the remainder of the competition.
“Once we get into the top four, then we will realign our goals so that we can be able to move on from there.”
For now, RSMS will draw confidence from that performance while keeping its sights set on securing a Southern Zone semi-final berth.
