THE Ministry of Women is undertaking a comprehensive social protection reform, says national coordinator-reforms Rozia Bi.
Addressing the Pacific Regional Tripartite Employment Conference in Nadi last week, she said the ministry was aligning the reform to the Social Assistance Policy 2021.
“So, we are looking at revising all the SOPs,” she said. “Trying to come up with an efficient and effective social protection program looking at the grievance mechanism, monitoring and evaluation.”
Ms Bi said the ministry was also developing an integrated beneficiary management information system.
“Currently, we hear the organisations do have systems in place, but they are in silos.
“So, what we are trying to do is to come up with an integrated system, and integrate them with births, death and marriages.”
Ms Bi said ongoing discussions were being held with the Fiji National Provident Fund, Fiji Revenue Customs Service and the Department of Immigration.
“This is in terms of how we could come up with an integrated system that would support everyone.
“And that is also for validation purposes as well so that we do not duplicate support, but we are able to provide the systems to the targeted group.
“In terms of the adaptive social protection strategy, which was also approved in 2024, we are trying to look at how we can integrate social protection, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
“We cannot do this alone and that is why we need a collaborative approach.”
