“Australia will continue to stand with Fiji to support ongoing recovery efforts.”
These were the words of Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes, after a C-17 Royal Australian Air Force C-17 aircraft arrived at Nadi International Airport carrying humanitarian relief supplies.
“These supplies will be used to refill warehouses that were exhausted following Tropical Cyclone Yasa and ensure Fiji is ready to respond to any future humanitarian emergency,” Mr Feakes.
He said Australia was pleased to contribute to the Fijian Government’s quick response to TC Yasa.
“This additional relief supplies will ensure Fiji is well prepared to swiftly deal with any future emergencies.”
The relief supplies include shelter kits, kitchen kits, tarpaulins, blankets, solar lights and hygiene kits.
Mr Feakes said the supplies also include additional essential electrical supplies to support Electricity Fiji Limited (EFL) in its efforts to restore power in Vanua Levu.
The Australian Government has provided $4.5 million in humanitarian relief to support Fijian people affected by TC Yasa.
