Fijian football star Roy Krishna has thrown his full support behind the new faces named in the extended Bula Boys squad, praising the inclusion of young talent and urging them to make the most of a rare opportunity to represent their country.

Among those called up is Labasa’s goalkeeper Jitoko Vulava, whose recent performance caught national attention after he was named man of the match at the recently concluded Extra Battle of the Giants.

While speaking on the selection, Krishna said the goalkeeper absolutely earned his place in the squad.

“Well, he deserved it. He got man of the match. He deserves to wear the national team jersey,” he said.

But the job, he said, was far from over.

“Now it’s up to him, to train hard, earn his spot, and cement his place.”

He said the national coaching team had assembled a good mix of players

“I’m just happy that a lot of young boys and new faces are getting the opportunity but it’s up to them to grab it, because opportunities like this don’t come around often.”

He said this was a step in the right direction for the future of Fiji football and hoped for the current group be kept together to allow long-term growth and stability.

“Hopefully, this team can stay together for a longer period. As I always say, we need to build not just for this tournament but for the future.”

Looking ahead, he said, players needed to come prepared, especially in terms of fitness and mentality.

He reminded the players that international football brought a different level of intensity and professionalism.

“It’s up to the boys now to get their fitness back, recover well, and come prepared, because international level is completely different from playing here.

“I think it’s a new team with young players. I’d just say to them: enjoy it. If you get the opportunity, you’re very fortunate and lucky to represent your country.”

He said the players are to wear the jersey with pride if they are selected into the final squad and make their family and nation proud.
