The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued its Early Action Rainfall Watch (EAR Watch) for the remainder of September through to November, with Rotuma and several parts of the Northern and Western Divisions facing a heightened risk of very wet conditions.
The latest forecast offers crucial guidance for the National Disaster Management Office and other emergency stakeholders as the country continues to experience an ENSO-neutral phase, meaning neither El Niño nor La Niña conditions are currently dominant.
The monthly outlook for September is for Rotuma under a high chance (50–60%) of very wet weather, a medium risk (30–40%) of heavy rainfall is forecast for parts of the Central Division, including Rakiraki, Tavua, Nacocolevu, Viwa, Yasawa-i-Rara, Bua, and the Lomaiviti Group.
There is no extreme rainfall alerts currently in effect for the remainder of Fiji.
The seasonal outlook from September to November has Rotuma, Labasa, Seaqaqa, and parts of the Yasawa Group facing a 40–50% chance of very wet conditions.
A 30–40% chance of increased rainfall is predicted for much of the Western Division, parts of the Northern Division, The northern Lau Group, Ono-i-Lau, and selected parts of the Lomaiviti Group.
