After eight years, former Netball Fiji player Unaisi Rokoura returns to take up the coaching position for the Fiji Pearls.

The former Fiji netball team centre and captain says she is honoured to be appointed as the national coach.

“Coming in to this work, especially now that netball has evolved around the world, we must be competitive, change and evolve with the rest of the world,” she said.

“I am thankful to Netball Fiji for appointing me. It has been a long eight years sitting back and watching. This is a great opportunity for me to come back. I wasn’t just sitting and watching, I was learning and seeing, if given the opportunity to come back, I know exactly what is needed.”

“It’s good to be back and I believe that I cannot do this alone. I need the support of the people, the players, the families and the whole of Fiji.

“Right now, we need the support because we are ranked 17. That is the reality. We have to address the situation and by doing it, we have to change and see and get as much help as possible to get us back to where we were.”

Rokoura is not new to the local netball community having represented Fiji as a player and having previously taken up the coaching role from 2009 to 2013.

She also coached the Papua New Guinea Pepes from 2015 to 2017.
