Motorists should slow down and refrain from engaging in reckless driving behaviours during adverse weather.
Land Transport Authority CEO Irimaia Rokosawa issued the caution following the news of an unfortunate head-on vehicle collision along Queens Rd yesterday.
He said the incident served as a reminder of the importance for all drivers to adhere to and comply with road safety rules and standards.
He said LTA enforcement officers would continue to work 24-hour shifts conducting snapchecks and road safety awareness around the country in partnership with the Fiji Police Force.
“It is disappointing to see that some people are still not adhering to road safety advice,” Mr Rokosawa said.
“As it is, the country is on high alert for an impending tropical cyclone, and with adverse weather upon us, motorists can expect some disruption to traffic flow and poor visibility with an increased risk of accidents due to slippery roads.”
Mr Rokosawa said the LTA was also urging all road users to cooperate with their enforcement officers, police, and stakeholders to adopt a change in mindset and always adhere to road safety rules.
