Rodan highlights Delana’s Paralympics honour

Update: 5:11PM FASANOC President, Joe Rodan Sr, is proud of Fiji’s assistant sports minister, Iliesa Delana’s latest achievement at the 2016 Paralympic Games.

He is the first Fijian minister to present a medal at any Olympic or Paralympic Games.

“To date, no Minister from Fiji has been honoured by presenting medals at any Olympic Games,” Rodan said.

He said presenting medals was usually reserved for members of the International Paralympic Governing Board or in the Olympic Games, medals are awarded by members of the International Olympic Committee.

Mr Delana made his competitive debut at the FESPIC Games in 2006, and won a silver medal at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships held in New Zealand and then brought home Fiji’s first gold medal ever from the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London.

At this year’s Paralympics, he presented the gold medal to the new world record holder in the men’s high jump T44 category.
