Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran called for support from the private sector in campaigns that focus on raising funds that would assist vulnerable communities.

Ms Kiran reiterated this call during the Road to Give 2025 charity event hosted yesterday by the Fiji Marriott Resort on Denarau in Nadi where more than 150 staff members and supporters turned up to raise money and participate in a health and wellbeing walk through the tourist town.

Mr Kiran said it was encouraging to note organisations such as the Fiji Marriott Resort and its sister resorts were coming together to focus on women involved in government’s Market for Change program.

“This fundraising that you’re doing for Market for Change will actually impact our women in their day-to-day work,” said Ms Kiran.

“We have seen an increase of sole trader businesses of women, from something like less than 500 in 2020 and in the last year we have seen a jump to about 9524 new businesses registered by women.”

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay general manager Silvano Dressino said the Road to Give 2025 was a milestone event for their annual Serve360 calendar.

“Serve360 is one of Marriott International’s core values since its founding in 1927 and guides how we do business,” he said.

“Through voluntarism, fundraising, cash and in-kind donations, our hotels and associates are impassioned to do good in their communities and make a meaningful impact.”
