Road repairs after flood: FRA

FIJI Roads Authority workers have been working tirelessly to fix all potholes along the main sealed roads in Fiji.

According to FRA the rain and the flooding from Tropical Cyclone Zena has inevitably contributed to an increase in the number of potholes along the main sealed roads in Fiji.

The authority has highlighted that motorists were to take extra care while using the roads.

FRA chief executive officer Rory Garland said FRA’s contractors Higgins and Fulton Hogan Hiways were patching up the potholes.

“Unsealed roads have suffered a lot of damage in the Western Division as there are extensive washouts of gravel and drainage blockages,” Mr Garland said.

He said it would take about two weeks to get all those bus routes open again.

According to FRA some of the major crossings in Rakiraki, Ba, Lautoka and Sigatoka have been washed with most being originally damaged during Severe Tropical Winston and the temporary repairs have been damaged too.

“We are asking people to be patient as the assessments and repair work takes place.

“This has been a period of bad weather from TC Winston through to these more recent disasters. Despite this the roads and bridges have generally been opened quickly, but the network remains fragile.”
