Fiji’s national road death toll has risen to 51 following a fatal accident along Maqbool Road in Nadera last night, claiming the life of a 77-year-old man.
Police say the incident occurred shortly after 6pm when the elderly man was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by a 36-year-old while attempting to cross the road.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm the exact cause of death.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
This latest fatality marks a continued rise in road-related deaths, with the current toll standing at 51, an increase from 42 for the same period last year.
