Road code in iTaukei, Hindi

FIJI’S road code book will soon be translated into the iTaukei and Hindi languages.

Responding to questions sent by this newspaper on the initiative, Land Transport Authority said this was necessary as it was a user-friendly guide to Fiji traffic laws and also for safe driving practices.

“The code book is intended for car and light motor vehicle drivers,” the authority said.

“The LTA has the responsibility of ensuring that the Fiji road code is understood at every level and by every driver and that’s why it is embarking on translating the code into the formal iTaukei and Hindi languages.”

The authority earlier sought expression of interests from reputable organisations, companies and individuals for the translation of the current code book into the two languages over the past weeks.

Asked on how long the translation would take, the authority said it would be completed sometime this year.

Meanwhile, the authority is also expected to undertake a study on the public transports throughout Fiji to determine the travel demand in Fiji carrying out proxy surveys in the major towns and cities and also to ascertain the frequency of travel in public transportation among other findings.
