People have to be more responsible, says divisional police commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa.
Reacting to the increasing number of road accidents that occurred over the past weeks, SSP Vaisewa said it was deeply concerning that deaths continued to occur on our roads.
“It is very sad that we are losing lives on our roads at this very concerning rate,” SSP Vaisewa said.
“The Police Force is doing our best to raise awareness on road safety and carrying our operations on the road, but we also need the help of the public.
“People have to be more responsible and be more careful on the road.”
The urgent plea comes on the back of a number of road accidents recently.
Accidents recorded in the West, East and Central divisions in a matter of days had drawn public concerns from citizens and authorities. Police figures show the national road death toll now stands at 69 compared with 37 for the same period last year.
The latest fatality was recorded in Lomolomo, Lautoka, on Monday when a private car crashed head-on with a bus.
