RKS wins Sovanivalu Shield defeating QVS

Ratu Kadavulevu School Old Boys emerged victorious in the 2024 Sovanivalu Shield challenge after a tough 40-36 victory over Queen Victoria School.

The match, which took place at Albert Park in Suva yesterday, was a closely contested affair that had fans on the edge of their seats.

In a solid and tough first half, RKS took an early lead with the first try. QVS fought back with a penalty kick from Fijian Drua halfback Simione Kuruvoli, keeping the score close at 16-23 in RKS’s favor going into halftime.

The second half saw both teams giving it their all, with QVS’s Leone Tuivanuaso scoring a quick second try.

However, RKS’s Pilipo Bukayaro sealed the game with a brilliant diving try, securing the win with a final score of 40-36.

RKS coach Peniasi Toga praised his team’s tenacity and belief in themselves, especially facing a tough opponent like QVS.

He emphasized the importance of ball control and solid defense in securing the victory.

“It was a very tough game given by QVS OB team given a lot of experience, they have mostly national players in their team, but I think the win is the passion the boys have knowing that we need to they believed in themselves that what got us the win,” said Toga.

“Going in the second spell I told the boys to control the ball and keep the defense solid.”

The overwhelming support from the Old Boys and fans during training leading up to the match played a significant role in boosting morale and motivation for the team.

Toga dedicated the win to all the Old Boys of RKS and everyone who supported and believed in the team.
