World Rugby is taking a holistic initiative in the development of rugby in tier two nations conducting coaching, skills clinics and combines right across the world.

The Pacific Combine team, who will be guided by former New Zealand 7s player and coach William Rickhards, began training yesterday and will continue until the end of the week.

The team is made up of players from the Manuma Samoa and Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors sides and Rickards is impressed with what he has witnessed over the two weeks during the Fiji Rugby Invitational matches.

“I am really happy with the group that we have selected from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga,” Rickards said.

“They are wonderful athletes and really good men as character is really important. This week for us is about education and development so we are running a whole range of sessions from nutrition, performance through strength and conditioning.”

The Pacific Combine team will have a match tomorrow against the Fiji Rugby Union Academy at Albert Park in Suva.
