The Fiji Navy conducted an operation early this morning to rescue individuals on a yacht in distress.
Located approximately 170 nautical miles Northwest of Nadi, SV Triskele had experienced broken rigging and depleted its reserve fuel, compounded by heavy seas and swells.
“The Fiji Navy’s Rescue Coordination Center (RCC), based at the newly constructed Maritime Essentials Services Centre, received a Mayday relay from Australian authorities,” said Fiji Navy.
“The RFNS Timo was promptly redirected by Navy Operations and successfully located the stricken yacht.”
“It is currently towing the yacht to Viti Levu, with the crew safely onboard RFNS Timo.”
Fiji Navy said this operation was a close collaboration with the Australian Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC).
