THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces will engage families of soldiers who lost their lives in the 2000 mutiny of the Queen Elizabeth Barracks, this week.

Three soldiers of the RFMF died in the takeover by members of the Counter Revolutionary Warfare Unit on November 2.

RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai said the trauma healing program would be launched this week.

“That will be done by a psychologist and the traumatologist,” said Maj-Gen Kalouniwai.

“They will be providing the training for all of those that will be going in the next phase to start visiting the families of the CRW soldiers and other families and personnel that were affected during the 2000 mutiny.

“We will be doing that until the families and the soldiers are comfortable coming back to camp and then we will start the whole trauma healing process with them.

“We will be doing this until November 2.”

Meanwhile, the military’s reconciliation and restoration committee team engaged members of the territorial forces last week.

Maj-Gen Kalounwai said the feedback on the program was from the military units.

“Everybody is happy.

“It is something that I know that they have been wanting us to go through and to try and clean up the house within the RFMF before we start looking at others that we need to reconcile with as well.”

The RFMF Commander has confirmed that following the reconciliation efforts within the military, they would also engage with past leaders and their families who were removed from power through military led coups. || Reconciliation Committee || Kalouniwai – RFMF to launch trauma program
