This year has been difficult for resorts operating in the country however receiving international accolades have brought smiles on the faces of both the management and staff members.
The 2020 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence was held in Sydney, Australia on November 27 with the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay being the proud recipients of the Fijian Property of the Year awards.
A statement from the resort management stated that the HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence was the leading industry awards in the region which recognised and celebrated the best properties, departments, people, chains and brands in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
Each year, more than 1500 nominations are assessed to determine more than 41 category winners.
The statement highlighted that with this year being a tough year for the hospitality and tourism industry, with resilience and patience, the achievement had been rewarding for the resort and its team of associates.
“We are extremely proud and grateful to achieve this award, which is a true reflection of the great teamwork and our strong commitment to deliver memorable experiences for our guests,” said resort general manager Silvano Dressino.
He added that the Marriott International Hotels and Resorts, Fiji was also successful in securing awards for Service to the Community and Sales and Marketing Associate among others.
Javed Shameem, market director of sales for Fiji and Samoa and winner of the Sales and Marketing Associate award said he was extremely humbled to receive the award amidst a high calibre of finalists.
“I would like to extend a special thank you to my parents, friends who are family, my Marriott Fiji family, a big Vinaka to my team from 2018-2020 and to everyone who contributes to the sales and marketing efforts of our seven beautiful resorts. This is a win for us all,” said Mr Shameem.
