Rewa football head coach Rodeck Singh described his team’s failure to score goals as an ongoing disease.
Finishing will be one of the biggest tests for Rewa football this season with Singh pointing it out as an ongoing weakness after their first Digicel Fiji Premier League match over the weekend.
Rewa blew a 2-nil lead to be held to a 2-all draw at the last moments of the match against Suva on Sunday at the Uprising Sports Ground.
Although they created countless chances to score, the players could not execute the final play which could have added more points on the board.
“I think when you look at the general play, whenever Rewa is playing we are always controlling possession, we are always in the game but it’s the last part that we are failing,” Singh said.
“That last part that we are failing, I don’t know what else to do, the boys go through the finishing drills, they go through a lot of goalscoring trainings but when they come for an actual game, I think they panic, they can’t finish off simple chances and that’s been a story from last year, we have started the new year with the same disease.”
He highlighted that it also came down to the players’ decision making that affects the entire result of a match.
With the team set to face Tailevu Naitasiri this weekend, Singh hoped that things would change for the Delta Tigers and the players would develop the confidence to score in every chance they get.
