REWA women’s rugby team has secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Royal Tea Ranadi Trophy competition after a hard-fought victory over Ovalau with a score of 39-33 in round three at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.
The team showcased their dominance in the first half, establishing a commanding 25-0 lead.
Despite Ovalau staging a remarkable comeback in the second half and narrowing the margin, Rewa held their ground and emerged triumphant with a final score of 39-33.
Team manager Alumita Marama expressed her gratitude towards the players for their dedication and hard work that led to the win.
She credited the team’s excellent preparation throughout the week, recognising the significance of the match and the importance of giving their all on the field.
“Our preparation throughout the week was great, we knew this was an important match for us, and we had to put everything on the field,” said Marama.
“We have few injuries in the team, but that did not stop the team, we came and gave our all and got the win.”
She adds before the match, the coach had emphasised the need to score four tries in the first half, and the players rose to the challenge with determination and skill, earning praise for their impressive performance.
Marama acknowledged the areas needing improvement, particularly focusing on enhancing the team’s defence and ball handling skills as they advance to the quarter-finals.
She extended her appreciation to the supporters and families of the team for their unwavering backing and dedicated the win to them as a token of gratitude for their continuous support.
