The Rewa football team reclaimed the top spot in the Extra Super Premier League standings with a strong 2-0 win over Ba at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.

Heading into the fixture in second place, Rewa knew that a victory would lift them back above Labasa, and they delivered in front of their home fans.

Skipper Setareki Hughes gave the Delta Tigers a dream start, confidently slotting home a penalty in the first half.

Ba had their chances to equalise but were unable to capitalise, and Rewa took a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, backed by a vocal crowd, the hosts doubled their lead when striker John Orobulu took advantage of a defensive lapse to seal the victory and send Rewa to the top of the table.

In other league matches yesterday, Lautoka defeated Tavua 2-0, while Nadroga pulled off a narrow 2-1 win against Suva.

Saturday’s fixtures saw Labasa edge Navua 1-0 and Nasinu stun Nadi 2-1 in one of the upsets of the round.

The national league takes a break for two weeks as teams will take part in the Extra Battle of the Giants starting this Friday at Labasa’s Subrail Park.
