DEFENDING champions Rewa opened their FMF Inter-District Championship campaign in style with a 5-0 victory over Nasinu at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Rewa coach Priyant Mannu was pleased with the performance but said his side must quickly turn its attention to its next match.
Mannu said the players showed good character and were able to finish the game strongly after a difficult spell before halftime.
“It is very important that we are doing a good job, but we have to do our best to continue doing a good job,” he said.
He said the big win was a good experience for his players but stressed that the result meant little if they failed to perform in their next match.
Rewa faces Labasa tomorrow, and Mannu said the team would need to recover quickly and assess the fitness of its players before the match.
“We will have to go back and recover and see who all are fit enough to play tomorrow,” he said.
As defending champions, Mannu acknowledged the pressure that comes with trying to retain the title.
“The pressure is there, definitely, because we are the defending champions. It is easy to win, hard to defend,” he said.
Mannu said the players understood the importance of taking the competition one match at a time.
He thanked Rewa supporters for their backing and called on them to continue supporting the team throughout the championship.
“Keep supporting, keep us in your prayers, so that the boys in football will win the game,” he said.
