The Rewa Football Legends Club successfully hosted a spirited cup challenge match at the Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa on Saturday, showcasing the talents of the Rewa Legends, Lautoka Legends, and Suva Legends as they competed for the prestigious Vilitati Lee, George Koi, Onnie Wong, Nicolas Rounds, and Kavaia Memorial Cup.
The return of former star goalkeeper John Andrews from the USA and ex-national team midfielder Ronald Chaudary from Canada added strength to the Rewa Legends side.
They joined forces with local legends Pita Rabo, Patrick Wise, Simione Tamanisau, and others to deliver a stellar team performance.
In an impressive display of skill and unity, the Rewa Legends asserted their dominance by securing a 1-0 victory over Suva Legends and narrowly defeating Lautoka Legends 3-2, ultimately emerging as the champions of the day-long event.
Following the intense matches, a memorable presentation night took place at the Fiji FA Hall.
The Oldest Player Award was presented to Eliki Lui, a former Suva and Nasinu midfielder aged 69, while Pita Rabo and Usaia Tadu claimed the Best Player Awards.
The evening also featured a poignant tribute as the Rewa Legends honored the late George Lui, Onnie Wong, and Vilitati Lee by presenting cheques to their families, recognising their invaluable contributions to Fiji football.
Abdul Mannan, the President of the Rewa Football Legends Club and Vice President of Fiji FA, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the teams, officials, and fans for their support.
He emphasised the significance of preserving the legacy of football greats and bringing former players together to celebrate the essence of the game.
“Manan also announced that the Rewa Legends will take on Ba Legends in a highly anticipated curtain raiser during the FMF IDC next week, with the winner earning the right to play against the host of next year’s IDC.
