REWA Rugby is eyeing Skipper Cup promotion as it continues its campaign on the Vodafone Vanua Cup.
The team remains undefeated along with Tavua and Northland. The three teams will now progress to round three of the Vanua Cup with stakes even higher, and competition tougher.
The Rewan side survived a strong comeback against Vatukoula last weekend, edging the opposing team by two points. The Rewan side led at half time 20-7 but ended the match on a close score of 23-21, and walking away with a victory.
Despite the victory, the team still has areas to work and improve on for the next round of games. Team secretary Petero Kaveni said the team has identified areas that they need to work on for the next game against Tavua.
“We’re trying to improve on our lineouts and scrum,” Kaveni said.
The Rewan side faced a strong opponent last week, a team with previous Skipper Cup experience, in what the coach described as a challenging but valuable encounter.
“We went in as underdogs. We know that they’re one of the best since they played in the Skipper (Cup) last year.”
