THE revived Macuata Tourism Association in Labasa is aiming to unlock untapped tourism potential and create new economic opportunities for local communities, raking in million of dollars to the economy.

Members held their first meeting last Saturday with businesswoman Amelia Simmons being appointed as the newly elected president. Ms Simmons said the formation of the association marked a significant step forward in bringing together tourism stakeholders under one platform. She said Macuata had enormous potential to grow as a tourism destination.

“From our pristine coastal areas and beautiful islands to our rich cultural heritage and agricultural landscapes, the North offers many authentic experiences for visitors,” she said.

She said the association would serve as a unified platform for tourism operators, local businesses, community groups and development partners to work together.

The goal, she said, was to strengthen tourism services, promote eco-tourism and create sustainable economic opportunities for local communities.

“The association plans to work closely with government agencies, tourism bodies, the Ministry of Tourism and development partners, including initiatives supported by the World Bank. She said collaboration with the private sector would also be critical in positioning Macuata as an attractive destination for both domestic and international visitors.

“The creation of this association is about ensuring the people of Macuata benefit from tourism development. By working together, we can promote our region, support small tourism operators and build a stronger industry that creates jobs and supports local livelihoods.

“The Macuata Tourism Association is now inviting tourism operators and stakeholders across the province to join as members and help shape the future of tourism development in Macuata.”
