Fiji’s health system is in “dire straits”.

This, according to retired orthopedic surgeon Dr Eddie McCaig who claimed the health institutions and workers were “struggling” because of lack of essential medicines, high infection rates in surgeries and crumbling infrastructure.

Speaking at the NGO Coalition on Human Rights “State of Human Rights” panel discussion, Dr McCaig claimed that doctors were afraid to speak out on such issues in fear of victimisation.
