Restaurants gear up for demand

AN influx of visitors to the Capital City this week has seen a dramatic increase in the growth of the economy of Suva, particularly for hotels, retailers, transport sector and eateries.

With the Super Rugby match between the BNZ Crusaders and Gallagher Chiefs last night at the ANZ Stadium, hotel occupancy had also increased while businesses’ opening hours were also extended to cater for the demand from thousands of visitors who flooded the Capital City.

Two high-end restaurants at Damodar City Centre, Raiwai, were fully booked to cater for guests returning from the game.

Jack’s of Fiji Mamacita Mexican Restaurant and Bar, and Saffron Tandoori Restaurant started receiving guests from 9pm on Thursday. Its opening hours were later extended until midnight.

The restaurants’ manager, Amlesh Roshan, said they were fully-booked last night.

The cozy five-star restaurants were more than ready yesterday afternoon to cater for the demand after the highly-anticipated Super Rugby match.

Mamacita uses fresh, staple Mexican ingredients such as chillies, chocolate, tomatoes and avocados paired with locally produced meats and vegetables.

The menu features many vegetarian options, and also offers those guests not up for Mexican food with a range of international dishes and pizzas.

They also stock a wide range of tequila and imported wines, plus their margaritas and cocktails are made fresh in-house every day.
