THE best of the resort wear kicked off the Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) proper at the Vodafone arena on Thursday night.
FJFW public relations manager Neisau Tuidraki said the show was something big for them.
“Resort wear is all-year-round clothing and that what Fiji wears because we are in the tropical climate; we want to start getting designers to think about tapping into the tourism market,” Ms Tuidraki said.
Meanwhile, Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya said the resort wear theme could not be thought of without recognising the importance of the fashion and tourism industry.
He said the Government was targeting new markets in South East Asia region.
“We want tourists in Fiji to buy Fijian designs so the Fijian clothing and fashion industry needs to think deep and make Fijian designs better than the well-known high street brands,” he said.
