Momi Bay hosted a Holi celebration last Saturday despite the unfavourable weather.

Resort general manager Silvano Dressino said he was pleased to welcome back international guests to showcase how Holi was celebrated in Fiji.

“For us as Marriott International, one of our core values is diversity, inclusion and showing tolerance for all cultures and religions,” he said. “We are kid-friendly, so all ages can celebrate Holi.”

The event was livened up by DJ Skitz, the use of foam machines and an afterparty which were the highlights of the celebrations.

Initial plans to celebrate the event by the beach had to be changed because of the downpour.

The guests who were part of the event had to relocate to the Grand Salon area of the resort.

Guests later indulged in a lavish Indian themed buffet dinner, which were mostly locally sourced at the Goji Kitchen and Bar.

Banquet sous chef Nilesh Sen, who has been working at the resort since 2019, said he hoped the event would serve as a learning experience for guests.

“We have Indian chefs explaining at the live stations of how certain food is made, like the lentil patties and the pakoras,” he said.
