Residents step in to repair Tunalia crossing

Residents of Tunalia in Nadi have taken matters into their own hands, coming together today to rehabilitate a damaged road crossing that has long posed challenges for the community.

Mohammed Hanzala, a resident of the area, said the poor state of the road has been an ongoing issue, with little lasting repair work carried out over the years.

“For a long time, this road has been in very poor condition, and unfortunately, it is not being properly repaired,” he said.

Hanzala highlighted that each year, residents continue to face difficulties caused by potholes, damaged surfaces, and unsafe driving conditions.

“What is more concerning is that members of the public are now forced to carry out temporary repairs themselves because there seems to be insufficient action taken,” he added.

The deteriorating condition of the road has not only disrupted daily travel but also led to vehicle damage and increased safety risks for those using the route.

While acknowledging that there may be budget constraints, Hanzala stressed that road maintenance remains critical for the safety and well-being of the community.

Residents are now calling on the Fiji Roads Authority to prioritise proper and permanent repairs to the Tunalia road.

“The people of Tunalia deserve safe and reliable infrastructure,” he said.

The community hopes their concerns will be addressed urgently to prevent further hardship.
