IN the hope of creating a safer and vibrant community, residents of Kinoya in Nasinu have organised a ‘Kinoya Community Day’ aimed at reducing crime and increasing youth participation in the area.
The event which will happen this weekend would include queen contestants.
The community’s committee president Viniana Seru said it was time to involve the young people with community work.
“We need to engage the young people in sports, cultural activities and skill-building, opportunities and talent show cases to promote personal growth and positive development,” she said.
“We also need to create a safe and secure neighbourhood by encouraging residents to know and support one another.
“It’s also important to work together to prevent crime and foster an inclusive, respectful environment.”
She said they have also informed the Nasinu Town Council executives about their initiative as they would also like to appoint their own queen contestant for next year’s Nasinu Festival.
