A Savusavu resident believes the Government is placing tourism projects as priorities ahead of individuals’ basic needs.
Mara Mahoney said their communities were still waiting for simple things like a proper road while big developments for tourism were moving fast.
“The Government promised to tarseal Nukubalavu Road during the last election, but nothing has happened,” she said.
Ms Mahoney said the dusty road is being used by school children, families, and tour buses, and it was making life hard.
“People have to breathe in dust every day.
“The tourism sector is getting everything while we wait for basic things.”
In response, Fiji Roads Authority Savusavu manager Tevita Waqavakatoga said they plan to fix the Nukubalavu Road in the 2025-2026 financial year.
He said the Water Authority first needs to move a water line that runs through the middle of the road.
“Then they can start to upgrade the road,” he added.
