AN emotional Repeka Turagabeci, 13, fought back tears when she was inducted the headgirl of Waiqanake District School at Namakala Village today.
Her namesake had been her guardian after her mother passed away two years ago.
Repeka was among 29 prefects who were inducted at the village church, witnessed by parents and teachers.
“I want to thank my namesake for guiding me all the way. I believe if my mother was still around, she will be so proud of me today,” Repeka said.
“My mother passed away two years ago and since then my namesake has been looking after me, and she was so happy to put that badge on me today,” she said.
Waiqanake Methodist Circuit minister Reverend Manase Foyokau reminded prefects to be role models to the students of their school.
“Try to maintain discipline when leading your school. I know this is not an easy role but it is important that you work hard,” he said.
The school consists of more than 100 students from the four nearby villages within the district.
