THE relocation of the Fiji National University’s Labasa campus has made it difficult for the university to offer degree programs in agriculture and forestry.
FNU Technical and Vocational Education and Training pro vice-chancellor Dr Isimeli Tagicakiverata told a public consultation in Labasa, the relocation of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries between Labasa Town and Naduna had affected service delivery.
“We weren’t able to focus on improving services in agriculture which was a priority area for us,” he said.
Despite the setbacks, Dr Tagicakiverata said the university had developed 15 short courses.
“For the North, we had already begun delivering them in communities across Bua,” adding the university was optimistic about introducing full degree programs in the North.
“We have the land, and there are many opportunities for practical learning as well.
“We’ll take note of that idea of bringing the degree programs here and it could be one of the best services we’ll offer.”
Dr Tagicakiverata said by next year, the degree programs for the two courses would be offered in Labasa.
