National Federation Party leader Professor Biman Prasad says the Fijian people must not assume that everything is and will be OK.
In his Diwali message titled “Rejuvenate the light of truth, justice and righteousness this Diwali”, he said “assumptions and the sole desire for power and prosperity and aspirations for monetary benefits at all times can erode our self-dignity and respect”.
“It is important that the significance of Diwali transcends into our daily lives,” Prof Prasad said.
“The 14 years exile of Lord Ram and his triumphant return to the Kingdom of Ayodhya signified the establishment of Ram Rajya. “This means honest, principled, transparent and accountable government for the well-being of all our people.
“The bleak future and dark clouds of uncertainty due to a depressed economic environment that have been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic can have catastrophic consequences on many, many thousands of lives of our people.
“We know that many families are struggling to make ends meet, many have lost jobs and income. And we understand their pain and suffering. We feel their pain and struggles in the face of the record-high cost of living Meaningful solutions that put the lives of people first must be the priority of any kind and caring government.”
