The Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, has rejected the application for registration by the proposed NextGen Alliance Party, citing failure to meet minimum membership requirements across several divisions.
In her assessment, Ms Mataiciwa found that while the party submitted more than the required number of members overall, verification showed it fell short in the Central, Western and Northern divisions.
According to figures released by the Registrar, the party was required to have 2,000 verified members in the Central Division but had 1,828 after verification.
In the Western Division, 1,750 members were required, but only 1,482 were verified, while the Northern Division required 1,000 members and recorded 882 after verification.
The Eastern Division met the requirement with 266 verified members against a minimum of 250.
Overall, the party submitted 7,716 names, but only 4,458 members were verified, below the legal minimum of 5,000.
“As such, the application has not been approved, and the decision has been formally communicated to the representatives of the party, outlining the legal requirements that have not been met,” Ms Mataiciwa said.
She emphasised that political party registration is governed by established legal standards to ensure transparency, accountability and compliance within Fiji’s electoral framework.
“All applications are assessed consistently and in accordance with the law,” she said.
Ms Mataiciwa said the proposed NextGen Alliance Party has the right to appeal the decision within 14 days of receiving formal notification.
The Fijian Elections Office said it remains committed to providing guidance to applicants to ensure processes are clearly understood and properly followed, while upholding the integrity of the political party registration framework.
The proposed NextGen Alliance Party submitted its application for registration on November 21, 2025.
