THE Geoff Taylor Memorial Regatta & Fundraiser, held last Saturday by the Savusavu Yacht Club, was not just a simple sailing race.

It was a heartfelt tribute to a man who dedicated his life to sailing and nurturing young sailors under his wings.

The regatta was filled with moments of reflection, fierce competition, and shared laughter, seasoned sailors and eager juniors took to the waters, navigating not just the tides.

But the legacy of Geoff Taylor a mentor a champion of youth, and a man whose presence is still felt in the winds that fill our sails.

Charlotte Taylor, one of the organisers and Geoff’s eldest daughters, expressed that the regatta was a promise to carry on her father’s work and provide young sailors with the same opportunities he believed in.

“This was more than a regatta it was a promise to continue what my dad started, to give young sailors the same opportunities he believed in,” said Taylor.

“Seeing the way people came together, offering their time, their resources, their memories it proves that his legacy is alive and well.

“The ripples of this event extend far beyond the bay, Sailing in Savusavu is more than a sport, it’s a pathway

“To resilience, leadership, and connection, the children who have set out on the boats will be tomorrow’s mentors, carrying the same vision forward as have previous sailors who have become Olympians.”
