Refurbishment almost complete

THE refurbishment of the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) building in the Capital City is 95 per cent complete, says governor Barry Whiteside.

Mr Whiteside said the $7million renovation would be completed by next month.

“Works are being done on the driveway and building — it is the front bit that needs to be completed,” he said.

“Most of the tower has been completed. We are looking at July and with the builders it depends on the weather.”

This is the first major external renovation project undertaken by the RBF since the construction of the building about 30 years ago.

While the historical look of the building will be retained, the renovations would include the construction of a domodomo, the Reserve Bank of Fiji’s logo, which symbolises stability in the renovated forecourt area.

Jaduram Industries Ltd is the primary contractor and Architects Pacific Ltd had been commissioned to supervise the façade renovation.

Mr Whiteside said he was confident the new exterior coating would provide a new lease of life for the building and the new coating should last another 25 years.
