THE East rugby league team did not have a good start in the East-West series going down to West 10-6 at Ba Provincial High School grounds last Saturday.
East coach Isimeli Soqe said he was not happy with the decision of the referee in the match.
“I am not happy with the decision of the referee,” he said.
“We had scored a try but later the try was disallowed.
“Apart from that, we did well and the players did a good job.”
It was the first match of two matches with the second one scheduled for later in the year.
Soqe said the players would now join their respective clubs for the Vodafone Cup.
“For me, I am looking for two players at prop and halfback and the players must prove themselves in the competition before I could select them in the East team,” he said.
Etuate Tagicakibau scored the side’s lone try in the match but it was not enough to win them the first game in the series.
Soqe said they needed to work on their defensive structure.
“Our defence was weak against West and it was opening up and the players were going through our defence,” he added.
“The first 20 minutes went well before we allowed them go past us. I had three under-20 players in the team and they played well.”
