MARIST Brothers High School’s under-16 rugby team continued their impressive Deans competition campaign with a commanding 25-8 victory over Nabua Secondary School on Saturday at the Assemblies of God High School grounds in Kinoya, Nasinu.
From the outset, Marist Brothers displayed a strong start and a solid, cohesive defence that kept their opponents scoreless for most of the match.
Their clinical performance on both sides of the ball demonstrated their determination to advance further in the competition.
Despite the dominant display, captain Micheal James Kennedy was quick to highlight areas needing improvement ahead of round four.
“For me and my brothers on the score cards we did well but there’s a lot of improvements we need to work on,” he acknowledged.
“Especially for us forwards we were giving away too many penalties in our scrums and that something we need to work on.”
The tight head prop emphasised that while they would savour the victory, their focus would quickly shift back to preparation.
“One thing I tell my brothers we win today tomorrow we start over again so every game moving forward it’s a do-or-die game,” Kennedy asserted.
Marist Brothers have yet to reach the national Deans finals, a milestone they are determined to achieve this year.
Reflecting on past disappointments, Kennedy said,
“In the U14 grade we bowed out at the semi-finals to Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) last year in the U15 we lost again to them in the national quarter-finals but this year we are going for the kill and win the tournament.”
With their sights firmly set on glory, the team’s resolve is clear: this year, they aim to go all the way.
