Newcastle Red Bulls have secured one of world rugby’s most exciting finishers, confirming the signing of Fijian flyer Joji Nasova on a two-year contract ahead of the new season.
Newcastle Red Bulls, formerly known as Newcastle Falcons, is a rugby union team that play in Premiership Rugby, England’s highest division of rugby union.
The 25-year-old winger and outside centre arrives on Tyneside with a growing reputation as a big-game try-scorer, bringing pace, power and searing acceleration to the Red Bulls’ backline.
Nasova has already crossed four times in just three Tests for Fiji, a rapid rise following a hugely successful spell on the international sevens circuit.
An Olympic silver medallist at the Paris Olympics, Nasova enjoyed a standout 2025 campaign, earning selection in the HSBC SVNS Series Dream Team after finishing joint top try-scorer with 26 tries across the season.
While signed to play Super Rugby with the Fijian Drua during the 2026 campaign, Nasova has already announced himself in the 15-a-side game.
He scored on debut against Canada, added two more in Fiji’s Pacific Nations Cup final win over Japan, and continued his rich vein of form with another try in a 41–33 away victory over Spain in November.
Newcastle Red Bulls sporting general manager Neil McIlroy believes the 6-foot-1 speedster will be a game-changer.
“Joji is an electrifying runner who can really help spark our attack into life,” McIlroy said. “I’m sure our supporters will enjoy the X-factor he brings on the field, and we’re really excited about the impact he can have here.”
Nasova’s arrival underlines Newcastle’s intent to inject cutting edge into their backline, with fans set to see a proven finisher capable of turning half-chances into points as the Red Bulls build toward the new season.
