Reapi Ulunisau has carved her name into Fijian rugby history by becoming the first Fijian woman to score 100 tries for the national sevens team.

This remarkable milestone is a testament to her dedication and skill over a distinguished career that spans both rugby sevens and fifteens.

At 32 years old, Ulunisau has been a vital part of Fiji’s rugby scene, representing the nation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and the Paris Olympics.

Her 100th try came in spectacular fashion during Fiji’s final pool match against South Africa at the Valladolid World Rugby Sevens Championship in Spain.

Ulunisau sprinted over 70 metres, beating three defenders to score a crucial try that helped Fiji secure a 17-12 victory.

The Fijiana’s journey in the tournament showed promise.

After a slow start when South Africa scored early, Fiji rallied with tries from Atelaite Ravula and Adi Mereani Rogosau to take a 12-5 lead into halftime. Ulunisau’s electric run early in the second half extended Fiji’s advantage to 17-5.

Although South Africa scored late to close the gap, Fiji held on for the win.

Despite this pool-stage success and Ulunisau’s historic achievement, the Fijiana’s campaign ended in the quarter-finals with a 40-14 loss to the United States.

While the defeat was disappointing, Ulunisau’s century of tries remains the standout accomplishment and a proud moment for Fiji Airways Fijiana, inspiring the team and fans alike.
