Fiji Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne says the team is in good spirits in camp and is prepared to take on USA in the semi-final of the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations tonight.

He acknowledges the excellent Japanese hospitality and mentions that the players are enjoying themselves while receiving a lot of respect from the hosts.

According to Byrne, the team is ready for the upcoming match against a physical USA side, having already faced tough challenges from Samoa and Tonga.

“The team is ready to go, they have been ready to go for a couple of days now, we are keeping things going well, it has been a good mood in the camp,” said Byrne.

“We know USA will be physical. Our players also need to be physical.

“I think we played two physical games against Samoa and Tonga, so we are ready for this game.

“The focus remains on ball retention, trusting our team’s system, playing our own game, and maintaining forward momentum to secure a victory.”

Byrne expresses anticipation for the impact of physical player Vuate Karawalevu, who is expected to bring his dynamic running style to the second half of the game.

“He is a physical player, he can run hard, his getting well versed in the team, also training really well, looking forward for him to bring in some physicality in the second half of the game.”

He believes that Karawalevu’s presence will add a significant level of physicality to the team.

The coach emphasizes the players’ understanding of the importance of delivering a victory for their fans back home.

He assures that the team is committed to doing everything they can to secure a win for their supporters and for the country.

Fiji plays USA at 10.05pm in Japan today.
